Hyderabad: Gem and jewelery business
Hyderabad is a flourishing city. It is not only the capital of Andhra Pradesh but also a Hi-tech city.Huge money is inflowing from various business,NRI accounts and FDI. Gem and jewelery business is also flourishing here. Aproximately 4000 showrooms are catering to the jewelery loving people of the twin city.
Charminar, Abids, Bashirbagh, Gun-foundry, Panjagutta and Somajiguda, Secundrabad etc are the main market for gem and jewelery. Recently the jewelers started moving towards Banzara and Jubilee hills being the pause locations.
The then rulers of Hyderabad, H.E. the Nizams, aquired enormous wealth which they converted into gemstones and jewelery. There are huge quantity of expensive gemstones in their private collection.
The Nizam braught Raja Bhagwandas Haridas from Gujrat to appoint them as their court jewelers. The family is in business since then (1729). They are still in business having their showroom in Bhagwandas street, nizamshahi road. Perhaps they are the oldest jeweler in the twin city.
Many other jewelers find their fortune in the city. The people of the twin city have a taste for artistic jewelery. Especially Kundan- meena-jadau ornaments. People of hyderabad also love diamond jewelery and solitaires. Big companies like Tanishka and Reliance have their feet here in Panjagutta.
